Eating Out in Vancouver, Canada

While the quality of food in Vancouver is as impressive as any of the world’s major cities, the value you get for your money is a great deal more impressive. You can enjoy a huge meal for a very reasonable price leaving you with plenty of precious Canadian dollars to spend on things that you feel are more worthwhile. What they are is entirely up to you.

The fact that the city is surrounded by water on three sides means that it enjoys an excellent variety of fresh seafood. Sablefish, crab and scallops are among the specialties but any variety of marine life which you fancy having on your plate is easy to come by.

Its location on the Pacific Rim has also led to numerous other culinary traditions in the city. The number of Asian restaurants in Vancouver is mind-boggling. On any street you care to visit, you will find numerous Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, and Vietnamese eating establishments. And, that’s naming just a few, there’s cuisine here from places that you’ve probably never even heard of so don’t be afraid to experiment. More often than not it can end up being a very satisfying experience. To ensure that this is the case, check out the customers before you decide on a restaurant. If the majority share the same nationality as the cuisine that’s usually a sign that the food is of an extremely high quality.

Other international cuisines which have pervaded the city include French, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Mexican but with over two thousand restaurants to choose from you can rest assured that any other type you can think of is also to be found on some street corner or other.

All of the different culinary types in the city combined with the selection of fresh ingredients delivered daily from the surrounding region have resulted in Vancouver creating its own very distinctive cuisine which has become known as Pacific Northwestern. Now all you have to do is try it.
